The City of Edmonton is developing a district park in the McConachie neighbourhood. Planning and design is underway.

Post-engagement update - November 2025

This round of engagement is now closed. The feedback received will be considered as the design progresses. The What We Heard Report and the updated design will be shared on the project web page in early 2026.

About the Project

The City of Edmonton is developing the Pilot Sound District Park in the McConachie neighbourhood. A district park serves several surrounding neighbourhoods, is a part of the city-wide park system and supports a wide variety of facilities, programs and open space activities.

Schools

An Edmonton Catholic elementary school already exists on the site. There is also space allocated on the site for a future junior high (Grades 7 to 9) Edmonton Public School and a City recreation facility with an Edmonton Public Library branch. Alberta Infrastructure plans to begin the Edmonton Public School construction in spring 2026.

With two schools on the site, there will be great demand for recreation space. Sports fields and amenities to support school programming will be the priority during the design phase of the district park.

Amenities

The scope of work for the project includes base-level amenities as defined in the Urban Parks Management Plan, such as sports fields, seating, pathways and landscaping. This project will also grade and plant grass or sod in the areas where the recreation facility will be built in the future.

The combined needs of the schools and site requirements limit design options. There are few  opportunities to substantially alter the design of this project. However, the City is committed to public engagement. Advertising in the park area will share available public engagement opportunities when they become available.
