Construction continues across all three project zones: the twin ice arena, the fitness centre/library and the aquatic centre. The facility’s foundations are complete and work is underway on the vertical columns.
The Lewis Farms Facility and Park, located on the southwest side of 92 Avenue and Rosenthal Way, is proceeding with a build-to-budget approach. The project team has adjusted the project scope to focus on community programming needs.
The facility has been designed to accommodate the following amenities:
A base-level district park will be included with supporting infrastructure that allows for development of additional park amenities in the future. A parks maintenance yard will be included in the district park.
The need for a new facility in the west end was identified in the 2005-2015 Recreation Facility Master Plan and the Medium Term Recreation Facility and Sports Field Plan.
Public and stakeholder feedback was gathered on the concept and design, and showed support for the multi-purpose recreation centre. Extensive public engagement was completed from 2015 to 2018. The data collected during engagement continues to guide adaptations in the facility design. A summary of the public and stakeholder engagement is in the What We Heard report.
The official name for this facility and park will be formally reviewed and approved by the Edmonton Naming Committee prior to the completion of the project in accordance with the Edmonton Naming Committee Bylaw.
