The City of Edmonton is developing a new district park in southwest Edmonton. Planning and design is underway.

About the Project

The Windermere District Park Project will develop a park at 170 Street SW and Rabbit Hill Road to serve the communities around the Windermere neighbourhood.

This district park will support the needs of two schoolsone public junior/senior high school and one Catholic high schoolas well as a future recreation facility and local park users.

As part of this project, plans will be made to grade and plant grass in the areas that have been identified for the Catholic school, and future recreation and transit facilities. These amenities are currently unfunded.

What is a District Park?

A district park serves several surrounding neighbourhoods, is part of the city-wide park system and supports a wide variety of facilities, programs and open-space activities.

This project will create the draft design for basic amenities on the park site, including:

  • Sports fields
  • Flexible open space
  • Pathways
  • Site furniture
  • Landscaping

Public Engagement Opportunities

The project team is planning public engagement opportunities starting in June 2025 to receive feedback and validate the draft design. The design will support programming for the schools, the technical requirements of the site (utilities, grading) and meeting City landscape design standards. The combined needs of the schools and site requirements limit design options. Therefore, there are limited opportunities to substantially alter the design of this project. Advertising in the park area will share available public engagement activities.
