As Edmonton grows from 1 to 2 million people, the way we move around our city needs to evolve to meet our changing needs.
Edmonton’s mobility system is made up of a set of transportation networks that allow people and goods to move around the city in an efficient, safe and accessible manner. These networks include transit (buses and LRT), active transportation (cycling, walking and rolling) and roadway and goods movement (autos and trucks).
Here you can find a summary of some of the work underway or recently completed to help transform our mobility system to move people and goods around our city more seamlessly and conveniently.
Edmonton’s existing transit system will grow to include not just LRT and conventional bus service, but also new bus-based mass transit to create an integrated transit network that can move people across the city quickly and efficiently.
Building out a network of high-quality active transportation infrastructure for biking, walking and rolling will help manage traffic congestion, create better environmental outcomes and improve public health by creating more opportunities for active mobility.
Traditionally used solely for parking, curbsides are transforming into valuable spaces for people and businesses for many different uses.
The roadway and goods movement network is critical to supporting local and regional economic prosperity, connecting people to opportunities and businesses to markets.

The City Plan envisions a well-connected city of 2 million people where all Edmontonians can easily meet their daily needs within a short walk, bike, roll and/or transit trip. To achieve this, we’ll need to transform our mobility system networks so that they are better integrated and people can move more seamlessly and conveniently from one travel option to another.
