50 Street Bridge over the Whitemud

Rehabilitation work on the 50 Street bridge over Whitemud Drive is now complete.

Project Update – November 2025 

The rehabilitation of the 50 Street Bridge over Whitemud Drive is complete and has fully reopened for public use. Construction was completed in November 2025.

Upgrades included:

  • Replacement of the deteriorated concrete pavement on the bridge deck.
  • Replacement of asphalt pavement.
  • Safety improvements to the pedestrian and traffic barriers.
  • Additional structural repairs to extend the operating life of the bridge.

Minor work, including landscaping, is expected to be completed in 2026.

Project Information 

Construction on the 50 Street bridge over Whitemud Drive to extend its life and improve safety for users will begin in 2025.

Rehabilitation of the existing bridge will ensure a safe, reliable crossing for the needs of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians for the next 25 years.

The work will include the replacement of the existing bridge deck joints, drainage upgrades, pedestrian and bicycle barriers, modification of sidewalk to promote positive drainage, the addition of concrete pedestrian and cyclist barriers and minor repair work on the bridge.

Project History

Project Update - April 2025

Construction is underway for the 50 Street Bridge over Whitemud Drive and is anticipated to be completed in 2026.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Bridge work will require reduced lanes northbound and southbound.
  • Traffic flow on Whitemud Drive will be maintained with single-lane closures expected outside of peak hours (outside of 6–9am and 3:30–6:30pm, Monday to Friday).
  • On and off-ramps will be temporarily reduced to one lane for the duration of the project.
  • Access to nearby residential properties, businesses and ETS stops will be maintained at all times.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project with reduced sidewalk widths. Cyclists will be required to dismount through the worksite.
