Rehabilitation on the 112 Avenue Bridge, located over Wayne Gretzky Drive, will begin in spring 2026.
Project Update - March 2026
Rehabilitation on the 112 Avenue Bridge over Wayne Gretzky Drive is anticipated to begin in April 2026. Rehabilitation work will address deteriorated bridge elements, add a new shared pathway to the northside of the bridge and extend the bridge’s service life to ensure the continued safety of all users.
Traffic Impacts:
- Construction will be completed in phases to maintain traffic flow where possible. During each phase, traffic will be shifted to one side of the bridge while rehabilitation work is underway on the other, with Phase 1 occurring in 2026 and Phase 2 in 2027.
- During construction, 112 Avenue will be reduced to one through lane and one turning lane in each direction on the bridge.
- Temporary lane closures will be required on Wayne Gretzky Drive to safely accommodate construction work. These closures will be scheduled to minimize traffic impact as much as possible.
- Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained on one side of the bridge, with signage and temporary accommodations provided as required.
The City is committed to minimizing disruption for residents, businesses, and commuters. Advance notice of changes to traffic, such as major shifts, lane reductions, or changes in access, throughout the construction period will be provided. Rehabilitation is anticipated to be complete in 2027.
Project Overview
Originally built in 1972, the bridge had its first rehabilitation in 1997. Currently, the bridge accommodates both eastbound and westbound traffic, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge is now in need of additional rehabilitation, primarily due to the poor road condition and corroded bridge rails. This rehabilitation project is expected to extend the bridge's lifespan for at least another 30 years.
Project History
Construction on the 112 Avenue over Wayne Gretzky Drive Bridge is anticipated to begin in spring 2026 and is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
During construction, one lane in each direction on 112 Avenue will be maintained. No major detours will be required. However, traffic may be impacted during off-peak hours, including full closures overnight as necessary on 112 Avenue and Wayne Gretzky Drive.
