Construction Update - November 2024

Alley Renewal construction in the Kilkenny neighbourhood has wrapped up for the 2024 construction season!

2024 construction began in May 2024 and was finished in the fourth week of October. The 2024 construction season was a success and we completed all planned construction.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we completed another successful year of Alley Renewal construction. Alley Renewal construction in the Kilkenny neighbourhood began in 2023 and the City of Edmonton scope of work is now complete. For inquiries related to other ongoing utility work in Kilkenny, please contact the appropriate utility entities.

Garbage and Recycle Collection

While your alley is closed for construction, waste cart and recycling bag collection will occur from your front street or avenue. Carts and recycle bags should be placed in a visible location along the curb or back of the sidewalk, at which point collection workers will manoeuvre carts so they can be emptied.

Please mark your home address in the space provided on the carts to ensure they are returned home after collection.

About the Project

Alley Renewal involves alley reconstruction and repaving, improvements to surface drainage where possible, and upgrading of existing alley lighting to LED fixtures. It also includes the opportunity for a local improvement to add alley lighting if property owners are interested. Utility assessments and repairs, along with removals and pruning of trees and shrubs, are also completed.

Project Update - April 2024

It’s the second year of Kilkenny Alley Renewal and we are scheduled to start in mid-April, 2024, weather permitting. Work will consist of removing the existing road structure, placing a new gravel base, conducting minor concrete replacement and installing new asphalt pavement.

For those who live in the 2023 construction areas, the outstanding road deficiency work is scheduled to start at the same time as this year’s construction.

Please watch your mailbox for construction bulletins that will provide more information along with details on landscaping and alley access. Project Update - March 2024

The final stage of Alley Renewal construction in Kilkenny is scheduled to begin in May, weather permitting, and is anticipated to be completed by fall 2024.

View the project staging map to see the 2024 construction area. Parts of the 2023 construction area still requiring sod and deficiency work will be completed this spring once the weather warms up.

A construction bulletin with detailed information will be sent to all affected Kilkenny residents by early May.

Project Update - November 2023

Alley Renewal construction in Kilkenny has wrapped up for the 2023 construction season!

2023 construction began in May and was finished the first week of November. The 2023 construction season was a success and we completed all planned construction.

There are some areas in the 2023 construction area that still require sod. Once the weather warms up, typically in early May 2024, the landscape subcontractor will be completing the topsoil and sod placement. By waiting until spring, the sod is more likely to establish.

The next year of Alley Renewal construction will begin in spring 2024, weather permitting. The majority of the Alley Renewal construction is anticipated to be completed by fall 2024.

RV and Trailer Parking Permits

If you need access to your RV or Trailer and want to park it on the street during the alley closure please contact the Project Manager. They will work with you to ensure you have a permit issued for the duration of the closure. Please wait until you receive the bulletin from the contractor indicating your exact closure dates to request this permit.

Project Update - July 2023

To ensure completion of the Kilkenny Alley Renewal project remains on schedule, a change to the construction schedule has been made. Construction dates have changed for both the north and south areas of this project.

Construction on some of the south alleys will begin the week of July 31, 2023 (please refer to the updated staging map ). The contractor will deliver a bulletin to impacted residences with the actual date of the specific alley closure 5 days prior to any closures.

Construction will begin on the west side of Kilkenny near 82 Street and proceed eastward. Construction in the alleys north of 149 Avenue will be paused to allow for utility relocations, and work will resume in 2024. Please note that several of the previously produced materials may contain references to the outdated version of the construction timeline.

We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and greatly appreciate the patience of all residents in and around the north and south renewal areas. The change is necessary to ensure planned project completion in 2024.

A construction bulletin is being sent to all Kilkenny residents adjacent to the alleys.
