Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal construction is underway in Gariepy.

Construction Update - September 2025

The second year of Gariepy Neighbourhood Renewal is underway! Work will consist of reconstruction and paving of the roads, removal and replacement of public sidewalk, curb, gutter and street lighting.

The work in Gariepy Park and Top of Bank Park (along 53 Avenue and Lessard Drive) has also started. This work is being delivered by a separate contractor and will be monitored by Open Space Infrastructure Delivery.

As construction continues on 57 Avenue and 172 Street, local road closures will be put in place. Access to Centennial School is restricted to the 174 Street and 57 Avenue intersection. Refer to the sketch for the affected areas and please follow posted detours.

Work on the new sidewalks is progressing on schedule. Work has begun on the reconstruction of 57 Avenue and 172 Street roadways and will have localized road closures. The replacement of the street lights and poles is scheduled to start in September, depending on coordination with EPCOR.

The work in Gariepy Park and Top of Bank Park (along 53 Avenue and Lessard Drive) is nearing completion. This work includes new asphalt trails, concrete plazas, tree planting, site furniture, security lighting and small pedestrian bridges. Two larger bridges will be installed at Gariepy Ravine in the fall of 2025.

Please view this scope map to see the 2025 construction area.

The landscaping following the road and sidewalk reconstruction will be delivered by a separate contractor and will be monitored by Open Space Infrastructure Delivery. Landscaping work is highly dependent on weather and sod availability.

The City of Edmonton and EPCOR are working together to construct Absorbent Landscaping Low Impact Development (LID), which will help with stormwater retention and help mitigate flooding.

If you live in the 2025 construction area, please watch your mailbox for construction bulletins that will provide more information along with details on landscaping and access. All residents and business owners are asked to access their homes and businesses through the back entrances and alleys, where possible, during construction. If no alley access is available and/or you have special access requirements (such as DATS or a temporary access ramp to the front of your home), please contact the Construction Project Manager, Mr. Courtney Beamish, 780-496-4055, to coordinate.

Construction in Gariepy began in spring 2024 and is expected to take 2 years (planned completion fall 2025). Neighbourhood renewal in Gariepy is progressing on time and on budget.
