Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal construction in Malmo Plains has wrapped up for the 2023 construction season! 

Construction Update - November 2023

2023 construction began in May and was finished the second week of October. The 2023 construction season was a success and we completed all planned construction including:

  • The reconstruction of alleys, shared streets and shared use paths, in the following areas:
    • Alley south of 46 Avenue between 117A Street to Malmo Road

Parts of the 2023 construction area may also require sod. Once the weather warms up, typically in early May, the landscape subcontractor will be completing the topsoil and sod placement. By waiting until spring, the sod is more likely to establish. 

Neighbourhood renewal work will resume in Malmo Plains Neighbourhood in the first week of June 2024. The planned scope for 2024 will include sod placement only.

About the Project

Neighbourhood Renewal construction work in Malmo Plains will replace street lights, curbs and gutters, sidewalk and driveway connection links and any removed landscaping (including new sod). In addition, road rehabilitation and asphalt paving will be completed. There will also be park and public space renewal.

Cost sharing opportunities were made available through the Local Improvement process for sidewalk reconstruction and decorative street light upgrades in the neighbourhood. Arterial roads and alleys were not included in the scope of work.

A series of public events were held by the project team which gave residents the opportunity to provide regular feedback on the different stages of the project including design.
