Community Feedback on Draft Design - April 2024

Thank you to those who shared their ideas and feedback with us over the past year through the Building a Project Vision Together, Exploring Opportunities and Exploring Options and Tradeoffs project stages. The Project Team has now created a draft design that meets current City standards, policies and technical considerations and considers public input.

We invite you to review the draft design and help us REFINE it to ensure it reflects the Vision and Guiding Principles for Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal in Glenwood (163 Street West).

About the Project

Neighbourhood Renewal rehabilitates residential roads, replaces street lights, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and adds missing sidewalk links, where possible. Other opportunities to improve how people walk, bike, roll, drive and gather in the neighbourhood, and how they enjoy City-owned parks and open spaces are also explored.

Alley Renewal will be included as part of the Glenwood (163 Street West) neighbourhood reconstruction. Alley Renewal involves alley reconstruction and repaving, improvements to surface drainage where possible, and upgrading of existing alley lighting to LED fixtures. The community will also see work in the alleys to locate underground utilities for design preparation, prior to construction.

A series of public events will be scheduled by the project team which will give residents the opportunity to build a project vision and guiding principles together and provide regular feedback on the different stages of the project including design.

Cost-sharing opportunities will be made available through the local improvement process for sidewalk reconstruction and decorative street light upgrades in the neighbourhood. Arterial roads are not included in the scope of work.

95 Avenue Renewal: Planning and design and public engagement activities are currently underway for the renewal of 95 Avenue. Construction is planned for 2023 and includes changes to 95 Avenue adjacent to Glenwood between 170 Street and 163 Street. Local Improvement Options

A Local Improvement is a construction project undertaken near or adjacent to residents’ properties which is considered more beneficial to the property owner and local area than to the City as a whole. These include upgrades to decorative street lights and sidewalks. The community must submit their choice of decorative lighting (colour, pole, arm, and/or luminaire) from the options attached to the City for consideration by May 1, 2024.

Decorative Street Blades

As part of the Glenwood (163 Street West) Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal, the community has the option to receive decorative street blades throughout the neighbourhood at no additional cost to property owners.

Working Together to Make the Most out of Your Neighbourhood

The Building Great Neighbourhoods project team are genuinely interested guests, stepping into your neighbourhood like a visitor in your home. We want to learn and appreciate how you live and what you value in your community. Through public engagement, we will gain an understanding about what you need and value in your neighbourhood.

We seek to involve you in decision-making to shape the vision for engagement and neighbourhood improvements. Working together, we can make the most out of your neighbourhood.

How to Get Involved

We have created a road map to help you and your neighbours understand the steps of the renewal process and how you can participate. At each step we will tell you what the purpose is and how your input will inform the decisions being made. We commit to report back on how we used your input.

Concept Phase

The Concept phase is when we need to hear from you the most! We need your help to co-create a vision and guiding principles, explore opportunities, and explore options and tradeoffs. These are the most important pieces for your Neighbourhood Renewal and will be used to create a draft design to best meet your neighbourhood needs.

Design Phase

During the Design phase, we want your input on the refined designs for your neighbourhood. Your feedback will be incorporated into the final design, alongside technical requirements and City policies. These designs were created from the vision and guiding principles we co-created together. You shared your input, we incorporated your feedback, now we build!

Build Phase

During the Build phase, we want to hear your concerns about how construction may affect your private property.

Project Update - January 2024

Thank you to everyone who engaged with us on the Exploring Options and Tradeoffs stage of the Glenwood (163 Street West) project.

The online survey closed on September 19, 2023 and we appreciate everyone who took the time to provide their feedback through the in-person event, online presentation, the survey, emails and phone calls with the Project Team. We will use City Policy, technical analysis and your input to create a draft design.

Project Update - May 2023

Thank you to everyone who engaged with us on the Exploring Opportunities stage of the project in fall of 2022.

As we move forward into our Exploring Options and Tradeoffs stage of engagement we look forward to having a conversation with residents about the benefits and trade-offs of potential options. We will use the feedback from this conversation to identify what the community, as a whole, deems important to maintain and what is flexible when we REFINE the Neighbourhood Renewal design
