Five parks in the Balwin and Belvedere Neighbourhoods have been selected for revitalization.

Project Update - May 2025

Construction on Zoie Gardner Park and Balwin Park is set to begin in May 2025.

Zoie Gardner Park

Construction on Zoie Gardner Park will start in May 2025. The park is expected to be closed until September 2025.

The construction area will be fenced for safety and signage will be posted throughout the area.

Construction includes a new walking trail, basketball court, a new playground, new site furniture, park lighting and landscaping. Some trees in the park will be removed to accommodate the new playground. Removals will take place in May 2025.

The existing spray deck will not be changed and is incorporated into the new park design.

The new playground has a safari theme to compliment the spray deck features.

The washroom building will be remediated, and a new art mural will be installed on the building. The mural will be reflective of the community diversity and pay tribute to Zoie Gardner and her contributions to the community.

Construction includes a new walking trail, park lighting, new artist-inspired playground, new site furniture and landscaping.

The playground being built in Balwin Park is the first of its kind in Edmonton. Designed by local artist AJA Louden, the playground was inspired by nature and science fiction. It was created as a place to play, to grow together and to imagine the future.

All existing amenities, including the community hall and parking lot, tennis courts, rink and basketball court, will remain open for use during construction.

Some trees in the existing shrub bed next to the playground will be removed to accommodate the new playground construction.
