On March 5, 2024, Urban Planning Committee approved the 2024-25 Edmonton Design Committee work plan, which includes reviewing the EDC Standards and Procedures, the EDC Principles of Urban Design, and the scope of EDC review.
Industry previously identified the need to review both the current Principles of Urban Design and the scope of EDC review (as defined in EDC Bylaw 20673). The 2024-25 work plan therefore focuses on these items while delivering on the Committee’s commitment to review and update the EDC Standards and Procedures, which came into effect on February 15, 2022.
In spring 2024 we conducted initial engagement with the design and development industry, and based on this input, we have drafted a What We Did Report that includes: proposed changes to the EDC standards and procedures, revised EDC principles of urban design, and potential changes to the scope of EDC review.
We are engaging with the design, building and development industry until January 10, 2025. At the end of this engagement phase, we will continue refining the deliverables with the goal of completing this work by the end of the 2024-25 EDC term, which concludes on April 30, 2025.
The engagement phase of the project is now closed.
Over the winter, Administration and the EDC will be refining the deliverables based on stakeholder input. This input will be captured in a final What We Heard and What we Did Report which will be available at edmonton.ca/edc in February 2025. The final deliverables will be completed by the end of the 2024-25 EDC term, which concludes on April 30, 2025.
