Construction Update - November 2024

Neighbourhood Renewal construction for the North East Roads Program has wrapped up for the 2024 construction season!

2024 construction began in May and was finished the first week of September. The 2024 construction season was a success and we completed all planned construction including:

The reconstruction of roads, installation of sub drains and miscellaneous concrete repairs.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we completed another successful year of neighbourhood renewal construction. Construction in the Mayliewan and Ozerna neighbourhood began in 2023 and is now complete.

About the Project

The North East Roads Program (NERP) is the replacement of roads which require special drainage enhancement due to soft subgrade conditions that exist in the northeast neighbourhoods of Ozerna, Mayliewan, Belle Rive and a small portion of Eaux Claires. During construction, access is limited and residents will be affected by parking restrictions. Prior to the start of work, a construction bulletin will be sent outlining the work to be done and parking restrictions.

Construction Update - March 2024

It’s the second year of the North East Roads Program (NERP) in Mayliewan and Ozerna, and we are scheduled to start in May 2024! Work will consist of renewing the existing asphalt and road base, installing pipes to collect excess groundwater, placing new road base and performing miscellaneous concrete repairs and asphalt paving.

Construction Update - April 2023

This spring, construction of the next scope of work will begin in Mayliewan and Ozerna.

During construction, crews will be on site to renew the existing asphalt and road base, install pipes to collect excess groundwater, place new road base and perform miscellaneous concrete repairs and asphalt paving.

Construction Update - May 2022

Construction will be starting and will consist of road reconstruction which will include the removal of existing asphalt and road base, installation of a subdrain system, placement of new road base, miscellaneous concrete repairs and asphalt paving.

Ozerna

Construction in Ozerna will tentatively begin the week of May 30, 2022. There was a delay for the start of construction due to a supply issue. The contractor will be sending out another bulletin to all residents to inform them of the start date change.

Mayliewan

Construction in Mayliewan will begin the week of May 9, 2022.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in October 2022.

Please watch your mailbox for bulletins that provide additional information on access and landscaping impacts.

During street closures, if a garbage or recycling pick-up occurs, the project team will add new bins to the project area, outside of the portion that is closed to traffic. Please place any waste in the new temporary bin located closest to your property. After construction is complete, regular garbage pick-up dates and locations will resume.

Construction Update - November 2021

In October 2021, year 3 of the 4 year North East Roads Program (NERP) in Mayliewan and Ozerna was completed. NERP construction work consists of road reconstruction which included the removal of the existing asphalt and road base, installation of a subdrain system, placement of new road base, miscellaneous concrete repairs and asphalt paving.

Year 4 construction will begin in May 2022 on some roads in Mayliewan and Ozerna.

Construction Update - Spring 2021

In May 2021, year 2 of neighbourhood renewal construction in Mayliewan and Ozerna will begin! Construction is expected to begin the week of May 10, 2021. The construction work consists of road reconstruction which will include the removal of existing asphalt and road base, installation of a subdrain system, placement of new road base, miscellaneous concrete repairs, and asphalt paving.

Canossa and Elsinore Open House - April 2017

The City held an Open House on April 20 to display and explain the proposed sub-drain installation and roadway reconstruction of areas in Canossa and Elsinore. This was an opportunity for residents to understand why the work was being completed and to discuss how construction affected them.

Open House - May 2016

The City held an open house on May 12 to display and explain the construction map, staging map, traffic detour map and pedestrian detour maps. This was also an opportunity to inform residents about the new temporary traffic signal, which was installed at the walkway located at 74 Street South of 158 Avenue and explain how this signal functions. Also, during construction the intersection of 158 Avenue and 78 Street was closed to all traffic.
