Development permits are required for:
- Any structure that contains a large volume of water (at minimum 0.378 cubic metres) that is located within the North Saskatchewan River Valley and Ravine System Protection Overlay.
- This could include: swimming pools, skating rinks, ornamental ponds, hot tubs, whirlpools or spas.
- Any structure listed above that is located within a front yard of a residential zone.
Building permits are required for:
- Hot tub
- Private swimming pool
Permits are not required for:
- Structures less than 2.0 metres in height or that have a total volume of less than 0.378 cubic metres.
- Fish ponds or other architectural or landscaping features where water level does not exceed a depth of 600 millimetres (24 inches) or a volume of 0.378 cubic metres.
- Temporary wading pools holding up to 600 millimetres (24 inches) of water that are emptied after every use.
Trades Permits
Separate permits are required for heating and ventilation, plumbing, gas or electrical work associated with your structure. Please see the application requirements section in Step 1.
Additional Permits
Other permits may be required for pool houses, retaining walls, decks that support a hot tub or other structures associated with your project. Please see the information in the Application Requirements section in Step 1.
