Capital Line South extension is getting started. Learn about how to prepare for construction and how you may be impacted throughout the work.
Whether the extension is near your home or businesses, we are committed to keeping everyone informed about project status and how you may be impacted throughout the work. As the project progresses, we won’t be able to avoid all construction disruptions, but we will ensure we provide you with information that is accurate and up to date.
During construction, you can expect regular updates and opportunities for discussion with LRT staff who will be available to answer questions and concerns.
One of our main priorities includes working with you to keep you informed and to minimize impacts whenever possible.

We regularly monitor this account and do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
When we can, we will distribute information bulletins and postcards to businesses and residents close to the line with information about the project progress and milestones.

When normal routes to businesses are not possible due to construction, temporary signs are placed in the public sidewalk or roadway to direct customers around or through the construction area.
We will also provide Open for Business signage. Details on the signage will be available at a later date.
Here are some tips that you may find helpful in addition to any activities you have planned to help reach out to your customers.
It’s a good idea to be active on social media. New photos and updates help keep your customers informed and engaged.
You can also retweet, repost and share construction impacts that the City posts on social media.
If you’re not set up already, add your business listing and location on Google Business Profile to increase your visibility online.
The City offers a number of supports for small business owners and entrepreneurs. Visit Starting a Business for information on workshops, programs and other resources.
Early works construction, including relocating utilities, began in 2022 and will continue throughout 2024.
The procurement process to select a contractor is complete and Capital Line Design Builders are the successful Design-Builders, with major construction anticipated to begin in 2025.
When construction is complete, we will test and commission the line to make sure the trains run safely and reliably on the tracks before we open the line to public service.
The contractor will complete the project sequentially, by bodies of work rather than locations. This helps to ensure the project is completed on budget and on time. You can think of it like building a home.
Builders don’t usually complete one room at a time. Instead they start with the foundation, then framing, electrical, and so on.
We’ll work hard to lessen the impacts of construction, but you can expect noise, vibration and debris in areas close to construction. There will also be lane, road and sidewalk closures that will require detours along the route.
We will provide more information about construction timing, impacts and duration as the project progresses.
The contractor must comply with the City’s Community Standards Bylaw, including keeping construction areas free of dust and debris as much as possible.
Traffic will be impacted with lane reductions and road detours and closures along the route. The contractor will be required to maintain access to businesses and residences, as well as provide wayfinding signs, and when appropriate, other detour options for all affected modes of transportation.
You can use the Current Traffic Disruptions map to locate current work along major roads that could impact your travel.
The typical hours of construction are:
Monday to Saturday: 7am-9pm
Sunday and Holidays: 9am- 7pm
There may be situations when the contractor will apply for permits to complete work outside of these hours to complete critical work or to reduce significant traffic disruptions.
While we will do our best to reduce disruptions, there will be noise from construction activities. We will provide construction notices about the work so you are aware of any impacts.
The contractor is responsible for ensuring all noise complies with the City’s Community Standards Bylaw. If construction noise levels exceed the maximum limits, the contractor will have to apply for an exemption to complete the work.
Essential services will continue for commercial properties. There may be changes due to construction impacts for waste collection, such as moving the pickup location from the front to the back of properties.
