The Southgate Recycling Depot has closed. The City is currently looking for alternative locations.

The nearest alternative drop-off locations include:

Strathcona Eco Station (5150 99 Street)

Strathcona Recycling Depot (8505 - 104 Street)

Millgate Recycling Depot (86 Street and Whitemud Drive)

Operational Hours

Most locations are open 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. 

Each bin has a label on the front to tell you what items should be placed in it. Please carefully read the labels and follow the instructions.

Recycling Depots accept:

  • Paper (including shredded paper, newspaper and magazines)
  • Boxes
  • Cardboard (please flatten before dropping off)
  • Plastic containers
  • Cans, bottles and cartons
  • Christmas trees (accepted in January): when dropping off Christmas trees, please do not place them in the depot bins. Simply leave them anywhere within the depot area, off to the side and out of the way

Recycling Depots do not accept:

  • Furniture
  • Tires
  • Home renovation materials
  • Mattresses
  • Bikes
  • Household hazardous waste

Home appliances (such as fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, monitors and TVs)
These items should be taken to an Eco Station, Big Bin Event or the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.

The Reuse Centre collects everyday items not accepted for donation elsewhere.
