Wind impact consideration plays an important role in our comfort in outdoor spaces. The force of wind at the ground level on any given day, along with temperature, humidity, air quality and more, can have an effect on how much we enjoy being outside.
On June 23, 2021, the City Council approved Wind Impact Assessments Terms of Reference to provide more certainty and consistency in the City of Edmonton’s rezoning and development permit processes as they pertain to potential wind impacts associated with buildings 20 metres and over in height.
The Terms of Reference identifies when a wind impact assessment is necessary, what requirements applicants must meet, how the assessment is evaluated and what kinds of mitigation strategies could be incorporated with a proposed development.
