Rail Safety Week
From September 15-21, Rail Safety Week reminds people of the importance of being safe around trains, tracks and rail crossings. As part of Operation Lifesaver's national campaign, ETS joins other transit agencies across the country to highlight rail safety practices.
What you can do to stay safe:
- Always be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions like earbuds or looking down at your phone when near LRT crossings and tracks.
- Look both ways before crossing LRT tracks at a designated rail crossing and listen for warning bells.
- Cross quickly and never stop on the tracks.
- Use pedways, underpasses or crosswalks to avoid crossing tracks when possible.
- Only cross the tracks in designated crossing areas. Never shortcut across the tracks. Be extra aware at street-level crossings, such as on Valley Line Southeast or at various locations along the Capital and Metro lines.
Safety practices don’t only impact pedestrians. As a driver, you must obey traffic control signs and signals for your safety and the safety of people walking and biking. Never stop your vehicle on a track and look both ways before crossing. Remember that Valley Line Southeast tracks do not have crossing arms. Always obey right of way signs at crossings along the line.
Together we can #STOPTrackTragedies.
