Teachers' Strike School Special Service Update
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) has been monitoring the collective bargaining activities between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Government of Alberta, including job action from union members, and is working closely with both the Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic school boards. In the event of a strike, the majority of school special trips (route 600s) on ETS will be cancelled where operationally feasible. Some school routes will continue to operate, if they are linked with other routes. ETS encourages all riders not to plan trips on school specials during this time as most of these trips will not be running. All regular routes will continue to run on their regular schedules.
All school special trips will be restored when classes resume and riders will be notified through social media and on this page.
ETS inspectors will be temporarily deployed to transit centres the morning of October 6 to help with navigation. For all riders whose trip includes a 600-series route, please make an alternate trip plan during the school closures. If riders have any questions about specific school special routes, they are encouraged to call 311.
Students are always able to use their Arc cards to ride any ETS route or LRT, even on weekends or when schools are not in session. ETS will not be able to refund student Arc card passes for October.
