Commercial parking permits allow commercial vehicles to park in commercial loading zones on public road right-of-way as per posted time restrictions, which is typically 5 to 30 minutes. Permits also provide access to park in public alleyways for up to 30 minutes without impeding the flow of traffic.

A valid City of Edmonton commercial parking permit is required for commercial vehicles, unless the vehicle falls under one of the following:

  • Trucks with a Registered Gross Vehicle Weight (RGVW) over 4,500 kg
  • Buses with designated seating for 10 or more persons, including the driver
  • Vehicles with commercial license plates

Vehicles parked in commercial loading zones or alleyways on the public road right-of-way that do not follow the listed criteria will be subject to bylaw enforcement as outlined inTraffic Bylaw 5590.

Once a commercial parking permit is granted, the placard will be sent to the applicant and must be placed visibly on the rearview mirror.

Permit Cost

  • $60 + tax for two years from February 28, 2025 to February 28, 2027
  • Permit fees will be pro-rated based on the year of application
  • Replacement permits can be issued for a fee of $20 + GST
