Lost Pets

The Lost and Found pets search is a public database of the dogs, cats and small pets being held for safe-keeping at the Animal Care & Control Centre (ACCC). We have recently added new features that enable citizens to:

Expand their search to view animals that have been both lost and found
Create a personal account where they can post photos and information about an animal that has been:
- Found: while you wait for your intake appointment at ACCC
- Lost: to further expand your search in the hopes of reuniting with it

We recommend that pets are licensed with the City of Edmonton and microchipped or tattooed, and that your contact information is up-to-date. Taking these steps increases the chances of you reuniting with your pets.

I Found a Pet

If you have found a lost animal, complete a search for animals that have already been reported lost in the Lost and Found Pets database.

If you don’t see the animal you found in the listing, please create an account and a posting specific to the animal you’ve found and add it to the site.

It may take up to 24 hours to verify your post at which time it becomes searchable and listed on the site. You will also have access to a Found Animal poster which you can print and post.

Once you have taken the recommended steps to reunite the animal with its owner, please book an appointment to bring the animal into ACCC.

I Lost My Pet

If you have lost a pet, search for stray animals that have been found and brought into the Animal Care & Control Centre or found and listed by a member of the public.

You can login or create an account to share your own posting of your own animal including photos and contact information, or generate a Lost Animal Poster that you can place in and around your neighbourhood.

It may take up to 24 hours to verify your post at which time it becomes searchable and listed on the site. Your post will remain active for 30 days and you have the ability to edit or remove it at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

I found my pet on the site. How do I connect with the Finder?

If you find your pet on the Lost and Found Pets database, you will need to connect with the finder directly to retrieve it. The City of Edmonton does not facilitate returning of animals done through the database.

There is a link on the found pet page that enables citizens to email the Finder directly. Alternatively, the finder may have included contact information in their post.

Finders are able to put their information on the site to allow the owners of lost pets to contact them.

When will my post be live on the site?

You will receive an email notification after your posting has been verified (within 24 hours) at which time it becomes searchable on the site.

How long does the posting stay up?

ACCC provides this free online service for you to post a listing for the animal you have found. Once your post is live, it will remain searchable for 30 days.

Can I remove my post?

You can return and edit or remove your post at any time. If you find the animal’s owner prior to your scheduled appointment, go to “My Found Animals” and click the ‘Remove Animal’ button to remove your listing.

If the animal is admitted to ACCC, our server will automatically update the animal to ‘in-care’ status at ACCC. No further adjustments will be required by you.

What information will be listed?

The online posting will only display your name and preferred contact information as selected on your account details, along with the basic information: animal’s name, type, breed, sex, colour, age, date found, and the approximate location found.

Can I add multiple photos? Can I update my post?

You can add multiple photos to the animal’s online profile. The most recent photo added to the posting is what you will see followed by any additional photos you have added. Any updates you make to your posting will need to be verified before they are reflected in your posting.

How do I need to enter a postal code when I create my account?

Adding your address to your account is mandatory. When entering your address information, use the appropriate fields to enter the street number, street name, apartment number (if applicable). The postal code is a mandatory field.

Select the street type and province from the drop down menu. To enter the City / Town click ‘Find’ and choose the link with the correct first 3 letters/numbers of your postal code. Do not type Edmonton into the field or you will receive an error message. When the correct link has been added the first 3 numbers/letters will automatically populate in the Postal Code field, enter the last 3 letters/numbers into the field.

Why do I need to enter a location including a postal code when I am adding a lost or found pet?

Ensuring the animal is reflected as lost or found in the correct area is important for reunification which is why this information is mandatory. When adding an approximate location, it is recommended to use the nearest street and avenue, neighbourhood, or landmark. The postal code is a mandatory field.

We appreciate that you may have found the animal in a location other than your own neighbourhood. If you are unsure of the postal code, try a tool such as Google Maps to pick up a nearby postal code. This will really help those searching for their pets.

Found Animal Poster

Your found animal posting automatically generates a “Found Animal” poster which you can print out and post in your neighbourhood. Please note: this poster will use the Preferred Contact Telephone number that you have entered into your ‘My Details' area when you created your profile login.
