The Urban Forest Ambassador Program is a free resident awareness program dedicated to protecting Edmonton’s elm and ash trees. 

Program Overview

Urban Forest Ambassadors:

  • Participate in a City-led training session
  • Learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer
  • Play an important role in how we protect our elm trees.

No prior experience in tree care or horticulture is necessary, as the program provides all required training.

Become an Urban Forest Ambassador

Ready to play a vital role in protecting Edmonton’s urban forest? Becoming an Urban Forest Ambassador starts with a free informative training session. 

Training Overview

This training provides the knowledge and skills to:

  • Recognize early signs and symptoms of Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer
  • Understand tree health
  • Support surveillance in your neighbourhood
  • Learn how the City is responding
  • Contribute to City-wide reporting

With thousands of elms and ash trees lining both private and public spaces across the city, early detection is essential. Urban Forest Ambassadors serve as knowledgeable representatives within their neighbourhoods and act as an extra set of eyes as we safeguard our urban forest.

All suspected cases will be reported using an online form. Specific reporting instructions will be provided during training.
