The City has been awarded $175 million to implement its Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) Action Plan.

The City will encourage housing development by addressing infrastructure requirements in key growth areas and develop a framework for integrating housing development with high quality transit to create vibrant, accessible and connected communities.
The City will expedite the development of surplus land, unlocking its potential for housing and infrastructure projects that contribute to the city's growth and community well-being.
The City will embrace cutting-edge technology to modernize the permit process, improving efficiency and enhancing the overall experience for developers and residents.
The City will create an administrative standard to give precedence to affordable housing development applications and invest in initiatives to support the development of more affordable housing.
The City will defer the cost of sanitary sewers for affordable housing providers, easing financial burden and allowing greater affordability for future tenants.
The City will modernize infill fire flow requirements to help avoid costly infrastructure upgrades.
The City will implement a phased reduction of the multi-unit tax subclass to create a more equitable tax structure, fostering an environment that encourages the development of diverse housing options.
The City will provide rebates to encourage the integration of District Energy Sharing System infrastructure into the Blatchford community, promoting sustainability and energy-efficiency in multi-unit housing developments.
The City will support and empower its partners in affordable housing development by sharing expertise and resources.
The City will refocus efforts to increase the number of secondary suites, creating a greater diversity of housing options.
The City will receive the funding in four installments. To receive the full $175 million, the City must complete the action plan, which was designed to fast-track more than 5,200 new housing units by 2026, over and above what would typically be expected.
This will help Edmonton create more complete, low-carbon, climate-resilient communities that are affordable, inclusive, equitable and diverse.
Edmonton is growing and so is our need for housing. Right now, 1 in 8 households - owners and renters, young and old - are paying more than they can afford in housing costs, or live in crowded or unsafe conditions, and can’t afford to move.
At the same time, higher interest rates, inflation and a growing population are expected to put a higher demand on available supply, tightening vacancy rates and increasing housing costs. The Housing Accelerator Fund will help deliver new homes and more options for current and future Edmontonians.
These homes will be market housing as well as non-market affordable housing, both rentals and ownership.
The City will be working closely with residential developers, affordable housing providers, community groups, and residents as we implement the Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan.
