Edmonton Elections is looking for election workers for the 2025 Edmonton Election. A range of shifts and positions are available for Election Day and advance vote in October, with our team hiring for about 6,000 positions.

Worker Eligibility
You can be an election worker if you are:
- Eligible to work in Canada
- At least 16 years old during the working opportunity. Some positions require a minimum of 18 years of age.

Available Roles
From setting up safe, accessible voting stations to providing a friendly face at the door and supporting voters to cast their ballots, your work will reassure voters that the democratic process is in good hands.
The Presiding Deputy leads the voting station team. This means you will:
- Lead the set-up and take-down of the voting station
- Ensure that the voting process runs efficiently, effectively and in compliance with legislated requirements
- Assign roles and responsibilities to election workers
- Connect with visitors
- Ensure reporting is accurate
- Resolve issues and keep processes organized
Pay: $255.82-2,248.08
Number of position openings: Up to 245
Work Location: Various locations across the City
The Assistant Presiding Deputy works directly with the Presiding Deputy to ensure the smooth running of the voting station. This means you will:
- Help ensure the voting station is set up and organized and that the voting process runs efficiently
- Assist the Presiding Deputy in tracking ballot usage, records and data
- Manage ballots and essential supplies, coordinating resupply
- Fill in for the Presiding Deputy, as needed, and help cover breaks for other members of the voting station team
Pay: $503.14-1,954.24
Number of position openings: Up to 234
Work Location: Various locations across the City
Reporting to the Presiding Deputy, the Deputy Returning Officer plays a key role in leading the voting process. This means you will:
- Welcome voters, confirm voters are in the correct voting station, manage lineups, answer questions and provide accessibility supports
- Verify identification, manage registrations and issue ballots
- Ensure efficient ballot casting, confirm ballots are properly issued and placed in the appropriate ballot box
Pay: $255.81-1,673.91
Number of position openings: Up to 1,754
Work Location: Various locations across the City
The Count Supervisor ensures the accurate counting of votes and oversees a team of up to 20 count workers. This means you will:
- Organize the counting process, review procedures with your team and guarantee adherence to established protocols
- Collect and compile relevant information and forms
- Report unofficial election results
Pay: $183.59-239.87
Number of position openings: Up to 249
Work Location: Voting Stations across the city; Edmonton Expo Centre
The Count Worker sorts and validates ballots, and counts and records votes. This means you will:
- Prepares ballots by sorting and stacking them
- Count votes and record results on the designated form
- Assist with site setup and closure
Pay: $144.50-192.67 for one evening shift, approximately 4.5 hours

Yes. If you are working during advance voting, Edmonton Elections requires a commitment for all 5 days. This is key to maintaining staffing levels throughout the entire advance voting period.
Yes. Elections workers often apply for multiple opportunities. In addition to advance vote and Election Day, you can also work a ballot-counting shift (new this election).
Yes. We are introducing a new evening shift on our count team, after voting stations have closed.
Depending on the assignment, this role requires a commitment of up to 5 hours.
Yes. Training for all positions involves two components: self-guided online training and an instructor-led session specific to your role. While most role-specific training is conducted in person, online training options are available for some roles.
No. While elections workers have allotted breaks, you will be required to remain on-site for the entire shift. You will only be permitted to leave when closing duties are completed and your supervisor releases the team.
