The Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and Local Political Parties and Slates Regulation allow local political parties and slates of candidates to participate in Edmonton municipal elections.

A local political party is an organization with a fundamental purpose to participate in public affairs by endorsing one or more candidates in a local jurisdiction and supporting their election. Local political parties are required to register with Edmonton Elections before accepting contributions or incurring campaign expenses.

A slate is a group of two or more candidates with the fundamental purpose to support the election of the slate’s candidate members. Slates cannot accept contributions, but may incur shared campaign expenses in accordance with the regulations.

Registered slates of candidates and local political parties will be listed in the Register of Slates and Local Political Parties. This public register includes the names of any endorsed or member candidates, as well as the campaign disclosure statements.
