The City of Edmonton Archives is the steward of Edmonton's history through the preservation of and provision of access to authentic and trustworthy records of the Corporation, citizens, local organizations and businesses.
Mission
The City of Edmonton Archives serves employees of the Corporation, citizens of Edmonton and the wider research community by effectively acquiring, managing, preserving and making accessible records of significance that document the City as well as the lives and work of citizens, organizations and businesses in Edmonton.
Mandate
As per City Policy C448 The City of Edmonton Archives and according to applicable legislation, the City of Edmonton will provide a planned program for the acquisition, management, preservation, and provision of access to records of legal, administrative, evidentiary, cultural and historical value:
- of the Corporation
- of City officials
- of City sponsored organizations and events
- of Organizations connected with the City
- from public and private collections when deposited by the owners
Governance Documents
The City of Edmonton Archives is conducting a governance review and documents will be posted here as they are approved.
Governance documents at the City of Edmonton Archives are organized into 5 domains: Governance, Acquisition, Management, Preservation and Access. There are two main types of documents: principles and guidelines.
Principles are the City of Edmonton Archives commitment to best practice in the context of our institution. These documents guide and determine present and future decisions by outlining high level goals and identifying roles and responsibilities.
Guidelines are attached to a Principle(s) and guide and determine present and future decisions in a specific area of workflow by outlining overall goals, defining issues and challenges, and identifying roles and responsibilities.
