Out of the 70 accessibility actions in the Plan:
- 46 actions completed
- 19 actions ongoing
- 5 actions closed
Highlights from the implementation of the Plan include:
- Creating an evaluation matrix to measure effectiveness of the Policy implementation
- Developing a Public Accommodations Framework to create awareness of the Duty to Accommodate under Human Rights legislation and guide staff in managing and tracking accommodation requests from members of the public
- Developing an Accessible Communication Services program to remove communication barriers that Edmontonians who are Deaf or hard of hearing face when participating in City’s registered recreation programs
- Partnering with non-profit organizations to enhance the accessibility of programming at City of Edmonton Recreation Centres
- Incorporating best practices for interview accommodations into Hiring Manager Certification training
- Creating accessibility training for staff and consultants working on capital projects, which included a series of awareness videos showcasing people with disabilities speaking to the impact of accessible infrastructure
- Providing accessibility audits of public facilities to understand the current state of existing infrastructure
- Hosting presentations, training, and events facilitated by people with lived experience to build awareness among staff
