Mike Elliott was born and raised in outport Newfoundland. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science before pursuing a career in public service. Following university, Mike enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot and officer.
In 2005, Mike joined the Edmonton Police Service, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for both his colleagues and his community. Mike was elected President of the Edmonton Police Association, President of the Alberta Federation of Police Associations and as a Director with the Canadian Police Association. His leadership extended to the provincial level as Vice Chair of the Alberta Critical Incident Advisory Committee, where he championed improved mental health supports for first responders across Alberta.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mike has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to volunteerism. He has given his time to the Special Olympics, the YWCA in support of domestic violence initiatives and the Terwillegar Riverbend Advisory Council, contributing to the well-being and safety of his community. Mike is also a regular contributor to Canadian Blood Services, supporting the ongoing need for life-saving donations.
His dedication to service has been recognized through several distinguished honours, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, and the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, awarded by the Governor General of Canada for his leadership and mental health advocacy.
Mike is supported by two teenage children, Zachary and Makenna, and his partner, Amber. Together, they continue to call Edmonton home — a city and community he remains deeply dedicated to serving in this new role as City Councillor.
