Celebrate Clean Air Day 2025

Join us on Wednesday, June 4, from 10am to 2pm at the Stanley A. Milner Library to mark Clean Air Day—a time to recognize the importance of clean air for our health, climate and community.

Clean Air Day always falls on the Wednesday of Environment Week in Canada. This year, we will be celebrating it on June 4, and we are inviting Edmontonians of all ages to drop by and take part in this special day.

Together with Alberta Capital Airshed, Alberta Lung, and City of Edmonton - Change for Climate, we will be sharing information, hands-on displays, and ideas on how we can all help keep our air clean and healthy.

Air Quality Health Index Light Installation

The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is a measurement designed to help people understand what air quality means to their health. We’ve made an art installation to help visualize this.

Our AQHI light installations will be displayed at various locations. Currently, there's an installation located at City Hall, Edmonton Tower 18th Floor, MacEwan University - Robbins Health Centre, and Edmonton O'day'min Primary Care Network Health Clinic.

Set up Your Own AQHI Light Bulb

Set up your own Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) light bulb installation using a WiFi-enabled bulb to link to the AQHI by following either the user-friendly tutorial, with easy-to-read instructions, or the more detailed AQHI Setup Guide.

Clean air is something we should be working towards every day. Here are some tips on how you can support clean air:

Learn more about air quality in Edmonton, including how to set up your own Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) light bulb and information on AirBeam air monitoring kits. For current data, see the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI).
Be Idle Free: idling your vehicle not only wastes gasoline (and therefore, money), it also causes needless pollution and can be damaging to your vehicle. Protect your wallet and your health - be aware of your idling habits.
Traffic can be a big headache. Lessen the traffic by using alternative modes of transportation. Walk, bike or try taking Edmonton Transit instead of driving. Edmonton Transit is committed to offering environmentally-friendly transportation. Just 1 bus can replace about 50 private cars on the road.
Plant a tree in your community.
Learn about how you can contribute to improving indoor and outdoor air quality at home, school and work.

Encourage your organization to become a member of the Alberta Capital Airshed.
