The City of Edmonton is creating a plan to manage risks of wildfire in areas where urban developments meet undeveloped vegetation areas - the wildland-urban interface. The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Wildfire Risk Strategy will address the increasing threat of wildfires in urban areas due to climate change and expanding urban development.
A long-term strategy would prioritize reducing the potential of physical and economic losses from wildfires, protecting people, property and the environment.
Public Engagement
Engagement for the WUI Wildfire Risk Strategy will occur in two phases:
- Phase 1: Engagement on Development of Draft Strategy (summer 2025) - This phase is complete.
- Phase 2: Engagement on Draft Strategy or Draft Approach (late 2025) - We will gather targeted feedback on the draft strategy to help refine it and show how public input was used.
Public engagement opportunities will be shared on Engaged Edmonton.
