Edmonton is already a leader in industrial innovation, and now we're making it even more attractive to grow your business here. The City's new Industrial Carbon Capture Facility Tax Incentive offers a powerful new tax exemption that can aid in accelerating your industrial growth, support groundbreaking innovation and help collectively capture carbon emissions.
This isn't just about environmental responsibility; it's about smart business. This incentive is a key part of the City of Edmonton's commitment to advancing industrial development, strengthening our local economy and attracting major industrial investment.
Drive Industrial Investment with Significant Savings
We understand that large-scale Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects require significant investment. That's why this incentive is designed to make these projects more financially viable and competitive in Edmonton. By offering long-term municipal property tax exemptions, we're helping businesses like yours expand or establish new operations, all while contributing to a strong industrial tax base and ensuring the continued delivery of essential municipal services.
Unpacking the Incentive: What You Need to Know
Qualifying industrial facilities that are connected to or contain on-site CCUS technology can benefit from:
- Up to $2.4-million annually in municipal property tax exemptions
- A 10-year exemption period, beginning once your facility becomes operational
It's important to note that this exemption applies to non-residential municipal taxes only; it does not include provincial education taxes or other levies.
